It’s funny to me that we named Dylan’s blog “Untethered,” because I’m quite sure if you took his iPhone away for too long, he might have a stroke.

Because of the nature of our jobs, however, my laptop and phone are usually never far away.

Lee Creek in Devil’s Den State Park, in Arkansas.

I was out of the office this past week, taking a much-needed break. But I find the only way to really get away from the phone calls, the text messages, the emails and social media updates is to actually go where I can’t get a signal.

So my friend and I went on our annual day hike adventure, this time to Devil’s Den State Park. We had originally toyed with the idea of doing our hike on Black Friday as part of #OptOutside, but then we took a look at the weather forecast. So we went this past Monday instead.

For much of our adventure, zero bars of phone reception. It was great (when we got back into range, it was hilarious to hear my phone start buzzing out of control again).

The Devil’s Den Trail at the heart of the park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. My grandfather worked on CCC trails as a young man in Colorado, and this one is a marvel.

I also added to my Trail Hankie collection.

I may share the funny story behind that pink scarf on a friend’s blog soon.

I hope you all untethered for a bit over the holiday, too.
